- Richard Sala grew up with a fascination for musty old museums, dusty old libraries, cluttered antique shops, narrow alleyways, hidden truths, double meanings, sinister secrets and spooky old houses. Nice takes on some classic characters. Though Holmes never wore the deerstalker cap in Doyle's books and stories, I don't think I can picture him without it. I like that you added the dancing men, that's a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were more portrayals of Nosferatu in artwork. I guess he's too horrifying and not as sexy as Dracula. The girl looks like she's paralized, unable to move but knows what is about to happen. Two good pieces of work.
I think you caught Nosferatu's rodent like appearance very well.
ReplyDeleteIn the B-Horror "vein", have you ever done a homage to "The Thing that Couldn't Die", a disembodied head held by an entranced lovely perhaps?
Thanks guys! John - I did some sketches years ago of the disembodied head from that movie (which I love) mesmerizing a young lady. Thanks for reminding me of that -- I should do that now. Thanks for the great idea! -- RS
ReplyDeleteAs a longtime fan of unrealistic hypnotism in b movies, I will look forward to it. Along those lines, I would love to see more of the crew of pirate girls from "Evil Eye".
ReplyDeleteNice illustrations of Nosferatu and Holmes. Would love to see Caligari and Holmes vs "The Creeping Man" Have you ever considered doing a version of Punch and Judy? Your cast of character work would fit it perfectly. I saw an illustration you did of The Shadow a while back. It was wonderful. Thirteen O'clock is one of my favorite comics.
